The Man Who Knew the Medicine: The Teachings of Bill Eagle Feather
Published in Paperback by Inner Traditions Intl Ltd (30 November, 2002)
Author: Henry Niese
Average review score:

An invaluable contribution to Alternative Medicine
The Man Who Knew The Medicine: The Teachings Of Bill Eagle Feather by Henry Niese (who has participated in more than one hundred Native American ceremonies, including dancing in thirty-seven Sun Dances) showcases the Lakota shaman Bill Schweigman Eagle Feather who in the 1960s defied a U.S. government ban on Native American religious practice and performed the Sun Dance ritual with public piercings and continued on as a Sun Dance chief and instructor in the Lakota way of life until his death in 1980. Niese first met Bill Eagle Feather during a Seat Lodge ceremony preceding a Sun Dance on the Rosebud Sioux Reservation in 1975 and now carries on the work and legacy of Bill Eagle Feather by performing healings and giving seminars and workshops on medicinal plans and Native American healing practices. The Man Who Knew Medicine is a unique and enthusiastically recommended addition to Native American Studies collections, and an invaluable contribution to Alternative Medicine reading lists as well.

All My Relations!
It's a testament to the writer's humility that this book is not a how to in the Ways of The Lakota. More honestly it is a loving and skilled tribute to Bill Eagle Feather. I cried through much of this book..everything so vivid and real. I only wish it had been twice as long.

On Eagles' Wings: Moshiach (Messiah), Redemption, and the World to Come
Published in Hardcover by Targum Press (15 October, 2002)
Author: Hershel Brand
Average review score:

A reader-friendly, ten-star presentation!
At last -- a book that clearly explains the Jewish expectations of the Messiah without those pedantic "dueling Bibles" verse battles. This is not an "anti-missionary" book per se, although it does have a chapter on how to "just say no" and walk away from missionary confrontations, as well as a clear explanation of why individuals like Bar Kochba, Jesus, and Shabtai Zevi were not it. However, that is not the author's main intent for the book. Rather, he is presenting the Jewish teachings about the Messiah and the Redemption, step-by-step, drawing on Bible, Talmud, Midrash, Zohar, and many other classical sources.

The book is written in the form of a series of lesson dialogues between a fictional Rabbi Cohen and his student, Daniel. (This format has precedents in classical Jewish literature, such as Yehudah Halevi's "Kuzari." It is also the way that Judaism is studied in real life.) Each week, Daniel comes with questions about the Messiah, and the rabbi answers them in clear, down-to-earth conversational prose. For those who want the actual Torah sources, these are included on the same page in smaller, indented type. Thus, it is possible to read this book in at least three ways: (1) For basic intro, read the dialogues and skip the source quotes; (2) To delve deeper, read the original sources (in translation) along with the dialogues; (3) To cite a quick reference, go to the appropriate chapter, or use the Source Index in the back of the book.

One problem that non-Hebrew-speaking readers may have is that the biblical books are named with their Hebrew titles, i.e., "Bereishis" instead of "Genesis." Unfortunately, these terms are not, unfortunately, included in the glossary. however, it's not too hard to figure them out from the context of the verses themselves. There is also an appendix called "Rabbi Cohen's Notes" which gives further source material and background info on the various individuals, historical periods, etc. discussed in the main part of the book.

And finally, the concluding chapter, called "9/11 and Beyond", warns against trying to fit details of current events into messianic end-time prophecies. As "Rabbi Cohen" points out to his student, there have been many periods in history when Jews (and others) mistakenly intepreted current events as The Last Days and ended up following false prophets -- with disastrous results. When the real Messiah comes, it will be obvious. Until then, we should yearn for the Messiah's coming every day, and study the basic principles of what to expect, but avoid getting into specifics about dates, events, which country or people is Gog or Magog, etc. The important thing is to concentrate on our personal obligations to to serve God, do mitzvot, and lead a Torah life, so we will be ready when the Messiah does come -- may it be speedily in our time.

Excellent Synopsis on the Jewish Teachings on Moshiach
I had been searching for a while on a book that would provide me a general view of the Jewish teachings on Moshiach, and this book did that and more!

This book would be very helpful for former Xtians who want a general knowledge on the true teachings on Moshiach (like myself, .i.e., Numbers 23:19), as well as anyone else.

Needless passages from Tanakh are not presented to counter Missionary claims of Yeshu; What is provided though, is sufficient. This was not the intent of the book.

For those wanting specific counter-arguments against missionaries, you should read "You take J-*-s-u-s, I'll take G-d", or the "Real Messiah", as well as the Jews-For-Judaism website.

A further explanation on why Moshiach Ben Yosef and Moshiach Ben David can't be the same person would be helpful.

Overall the book was excellent!

Scream of Eagles: The Creation of Top Gun and the U.S. Air Victory in Vietnam
Published in Hardcover by John Wiley & Sons (September, 1990)
Author: Robert K. Wilcox
Average review score:

The Unreported War
Robert Wilcox has gone where few have tread -- to the air above Vietnam -- and we are left with a tightly written, throughly researched eye-opener of what really happened up there, and what Top Gun really was minus pretty boys in makeup and a rock and roll score. A must read for Jane Fonda.

Even Better Than Wings of Fury!
When I finished reading Robert Wilcox' Wings of Fury, I was impressed. I enjoyed it so much I wanted to read his earlier work Scream of Eagles (The Creation of TopGun).

Sincerely this is even better than Wings of Fury. There are plenty of first person accounts (sea stories) of TopGun's genesis and dogfights against the VPAF. The USN was less than enthusiastic about funding and equipping this new school in 1969. When you read about this and put yourself back in time, it's amazing that TopGun ever got started. But that's just part of the story...

The F-8 Crusader's days were numbered as the F-4 Phantom was replacing the 'sader in the Fleet. The men that developed TopGun knew that BVR missile shots were not the answer. Pilots needed to know how to dogfight and get the maximum performance out of their airplane and work as a team (both as a section of fighters and as a Pilot/RIO team). TopGun provided the cadre to teach fleet Phantom crews to build this teamwork.

If y! ou're a fan of the F-4 Phantom, read this book. If you're a fighter aviation history buff, read this book. After you read this, go read Marshall Michel's CLASHES:Air Combat Over North Vietnam 1965-1972. You'll be shaking your head, wondering if the USN and USAF were fighting the same war. Makes you kinda wonder why the USAF scaled back its Agressor squadrons in recent years.

Seasons at Eagle Pond
If you tend to wake up in the middle of the night to worry, this book will soothe your mind. Donald Hall writes beautifully about his life in New Hampshire in a house and a town he clearly loves. He will remind you of beauties in your own life -the sound of a snow plow clearing the roads at night, remembering your grandparents' house, gazing at a pond with mist rising from it. This may sound like the book is too sentimental - but actually it is just peaceful. The woodcut illustrations are also a pleasure.

This book is a treasure...
Every word of this work of prose is chiseled to perfection by Donald Hall, one of America's most gifted poets. This slight volume is among the most treasured in my personal library.

Simply Living: The Spirit of the Indigenous People

Celebrates cultures around the world!
As the number of indiginous societies declines and technology replaces older ways of life, this book celebrates the principles shared by cultures around the world. Editor Shirley Jones has culled bits of wisdom from 240 ethnic groups on every continent, ranging from the restorative power of one's heritage - to making community. The book has a foreword by Brooke Medicine Eagle. - Publishers Weekly Magazine

This is a thought-provoking collection, serious yet fun.
This collection of thoughts from around the world emphasizes that wisdom is not limited to technologically advanced society but, in fact, is often found most profoundly in the simplest of cultures. The editor has assembled words of many people in a manner that shows clearly how related all peoples are, how our thoughts, emotions, and perceptions are not limited by the physical and cultural barriers we normally perceive, and how humor, grace, and insight light up lives in all cultures.

To the Eagle's Nest
Published in Paperback by Dell Pub Co (October, 1981)
Author: Joseph Dimona
Average review score:

A mad and brilliant book of enormous energy.
To the Eagles Nest is a stunningly original story that ripples with imagination and intrigue. This is a masterful book divided into disparate parts, alternately a cooler than cool "Matt Helm" or "Tony Rome" story mixed with a scrupulous examination of modern day Germany. The book succeeds on both levels. To the Eagles Nest reads in a wonderfully cinematic way. Each action scene mounts on the previous one. The author, Joe DiMona was noted for wry observations and beautifully drawn characters. In the Eagles Nest he hits the mark time and time again. The self-absorbed American movie stars in Germany to make a movie about Hitler. The disenfranchised German military hero. The Justice Department agent drawn into an ancient conflict that leads him around the world. And, the reborn Eagles, modern Germany's stealthy new threat. All bold and fascinating characters caught up in an apocalyptic plot. A tense and thrilling book from start to finish

"Infamy On Trial, through the prism of Vanity Fair"
"To the Eagles' Nest" is a complex and compelling thriller by the late Joe DiMona, a superbly gifted author who anticpated the rise of worldwide anti-semitism, hate groups and the ascension of a Clinton-like body politic in this 1980 'tour de force'. Propelled by a manic energy and written in a cinematic style, the book is a searing look at Communisms last days, an elegy for Hollywood's lost glamour and a dire warning about telegenic "new" world leaders.

A group of American superstars are in Germany to do a film, the "Secret Life of Adolf Hitler". They are kidnapped by a terrorist organization who make, a series of increasingly bizzare demands. It is left to American Jutice department agent George Williams (a recurring character in DiMona's books) to battle the intercine forces in Germany to save the Americans. Williams unknowingly steps into the middle of ancient hatreds and desperate cold war gambits, on a search that takes him around the world trying to rescue the actors. DiMona takes obvious pleasure in the actors, imbuing them with great elegance and "star power". He couples his "movie stars" with trenchant politcal observations, and one of the most striking examinations of the culture of the "agent provacateur", those who create chaos and then get themselves elected as the party to end the chaos.

It is a stirring book, populated with Nazis, Communists and con men, all close to the bone, and starkly real. The book is an amalgamation of Elie Weisel and Dominick Dunne. A fittingly large scale and multi-leveled book from one of the finest American authors the latter half of this century.

Tomb of the Eagles: Death and Life in a Stone Age Tribe
Published in Paperback by New Amsterdam Books (01 January, 1990)
Author: John W. Hedges
Average review score:

A Mighty Work
It's obvious - John Hedges knows his topic. In this book, he brings together an enormous amount of information on Neolithic Orkney and gives it summary and scholarly analysis. If you're looking for a book on life during the Neolithic, this is a definite! Worth every penny.

Worth reading again and again
The distant human past is visible in the Orkneys, the low green islands in the sea north of Scotland. People who lived there five thousand years ago built fine stone tombs and henges older than the Pyramids.

They watched the sky and kept calendars. And they used the right triangle of Pythagoras two thousand years before Pythagoras was born.

It used to be thought that culture slowly radiated north from the Mediterranean to ignorant savages in northern Europe.

But the people of the Orkneys turned our ideas about cultural diffusion upside down.

Tomb of the Eagles is their enthralling story.

Tumult in the Clouds: A Story of the Eagle Squadron
Published in Hardcover by St. Martin's Press (August, 1984)
Author: James A. Goodson
Average review score:

Probably the best and most personal account of the air war.
This is one of my favorite personal accounts. Goodson, an America, joined the RAF in 1939 and flew Spitfires with the Eagle Squadron. When America entered the war, he was inducted in to the Army Air Corps and transotioned to P-47s. Later, he switched to P-51s and was shot down near the end of the war. In this book, he vivdly recounts air combat from nearly the entire war and pays homage to his comrades. What I liked best about Goodson's account was his humanity. He never glorifies what he did or boasts, even though he was one of the top American aces of the war. I get the impression that he intended the work simply as a tribute to those who fought.

A VERY PERSONAL HISTORY OF A PILOT AND HIS COMRADES
THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS I HAVE READ ABOUT WWII AVIATION .THE AUTHOR TELLS HIS PERSONAL STORY BUT IN A BROADER SCENARIO OF THE PEOPLE AROUND HIM AND THEIR PERSONALITIES .IT'S HAS IT'S HUMOROUS ANECDOTES BUT THE TOTAL PERSPECTIVE REFLECTS ON THE PILOTS OF HIS GROUP , THEIR FIGHTER PLANES ,AND THE TRAGEDY OF WAR .

Vegas 4 Editing Workshop

On the Spot
Nobody has read this book yet, as it has not been released at the time of this writing - but all you have to due is check out the Vegas forum at CreativeCow.net to know that Grammy-winner Douglas Spotted-Eagle (Spot) knows Vegas inside-out.

Sonic Foundry's Vegas 4 is very different from Premiere, Edition, Avid and Final Cut Pro. Once you've spent time with it and Spot's tips, tricks and short cuts, you'll never look at another NLE.

Vegas not an entry level
First of, You read the Editors review, did he actually said that Vegas was an "entry level" NLE system? Yes he did, but he is wrong. The guy that wrote that doesnt seems to know what he is talking about ;) Many of the things you can do with with Adobe Premiere or even Avid you can do in Vegas also. So why does he still call it an entry level, well frankly, i think he was mistaken it by Video Factory by the same company. All this said, Vegas is professional, or at least NOT entry level as other software, like Video Factory.

Back to Mr Douglas, he is indeed a forefronter, he have won his Emmy and Grammy awards and its not for any reason, so you can say that he have proven his good work in this book. In this book he tries to show you what he knows and i think he has done this in a simple yet professional way. If you want to get into semi-pro or even professional NLE, i think this is the book for you.

Let me put it this way, when i first started with video editing, i tried out differente software, but no one of them was as good as Vegas. Vegas wont be any better then you fantasy or imagination. Can you release all you fantasy, only then you can get the full power in the software.
